Each 30th Anniversary Edition includes a commemorative box featuring four randomized packs, each containing 15 total cards plus one token.
Of the 15 cards, 13 will have a modern card frame—1 rare, 3 uncommons, 7 commons, and 2 basic lands—in addition to one retro frame basic land and one additional retro frame card. Approximately 3 out of every 10 packs will have a rare in this retro frame slot. Dual lands will appear twice as frequently as any other non-dual-land rare in both the modern frame and the retro frame. The first lands to produce either of two colors of mana include some of the most iconic lands in Magic: Tundra, Underground Sea, Badlands, Taiga, Savannah, Scrubland, Volcanic Island, Bayou, Plateau, and Tropical Island.
30th Anniversary Edition is filled with nostalgic touches. Nearly every card included matches the rarity of its counterpart in Limited Edition Beta—there are no Mythic Rares and no rarities have been shifted. The only card that doesn't match its original rarity is another special add-on for 30th Anniversary Edition: Sol Ring. Sol Ring is a card that's near and dear to many players, so we created a special new crop of the original art that will appear at common rarity in both the modern and retro frames. Sol Ring also appears at uncommon.
We used the same retro frame from Time Spiral Remastered, but also brought back the original white mana symbol and the original basic land template. Not to mention the classic art.
While we wanted 30th Anniversary Edition to be nostalgic, not everything met our modern standards. We have removed six cards completely: Contract from Below, Darkpact, Demonic Attorney, Earthbind, Crusade, and Weakness. Additionally, we made some smaller changes to a handful of other cards, mostly with their flavor text.
We have also given 30th Anniversary Edition its very own card back, to help distinguish these collectable cards from tournament-legal Magic cards. 30th Anniversary Edition cards are not legal in any sanctioned Magic events.
